Early May(ish) –
Later in May(ish) I am so tired that my usual clumsiness and propensity to fall down and hurt myself increases significantly. Fall down stairs many times, fall UP stairs many many times. Do dumb things like trying to crawl through the dog door…with minimal success. Tell someone at work that I do not even have enough strength to walk up the stairs at work. Must be very very sick.
Laterish in May(ish) I have a “feeling” one Thursday night and decide the next morning that I will go to Suna’s and attempt to verify “feeling” Find out I am, indeed, expecting a child. Holy shit. Oh, um…I mean oh my goodness (because despite being childless, I HAVE caught on that it is not appropriate to curse in front of children, even children who probably have not even developed ears yet)
The baby, who will hereby be referred to as “the baby” until I come up with a more creative and suitable name than “the baby” (let’s all join together in hoping that this will occur sometime before “the baby” is a year old) is due around January 20. I was planning to wait until I was exactly 12 weeks to share this news, however I am now 11 weeks and have determined that 11 weeks is only 1 less week than 12 weeks (and coincidentally, 5 more weeks than 6 weeks – imagine that) so what’s the difference really?
Early June (ish) to present: Learn many new things about what pregnant women experience. Things like “food aversions”. Lucky for me said food aversions, in addition to things like pizza and eggs, also include human fingernails. My own at least. I have never had to cut my fingernails in my life because my teeth are generally responsible for that task. Teeth do not incidentally do a very good job, often leaving jagged edges and uneven lengths. Teeth are subsequently fired. Must learn to trim nails. Also very fortunate for me? Said aversions do not include ice cream. Oh, and in case you were not already aware of this phenomenon, pregnant women have a tendency to get extremely ill and to sleep many many hours every day. I, unfortunately, am not an exception to this rule, although I am happy to report that the sickness has been relatively minimal. The sleeping though? Oh my god…
Ways in which I have already been a bad mommy: Pushed my heart rate well beyond the doctor’s recommended limit of 150 while working out at the gym, burnt a batch of chocolate chip cookies (because all mommies are very good at baking cookies and I? Um, no) , have effectively ensured “the baby” will suffer a lifetime of the same slush addiction as its mom by refusing to go even a single day without my Pepsi slush. Also, see every post I ever wrote about caring for my nephew.
Am I the only one who finds it very ironic that somebody who spends many precious moments of blogging time writing about how terrible she is at caring for children, is now going to be having one of her own? All I can say is that I hope I will learn… but if I don’t? Our child is in for one crazy ride filled with dangerous slip n’ slides, being attacked by angry geese, laundry basket rides down the stairs and running with scissors while mommy and daddy rush to get the camera. Let the fun begin.
Aw, Sweetie! You are going to be a fabulous mommy, don't ever think otherwise. You have so much love, kindness, and clumsiness to share with your new bundle of joy, how could you ever think otherwise. I wish you and B all the happiness in the world, and I can't wait til "the baby" is born so Auntie Suna can spoil the living shit outa "the baby" LOL You are an amazing friend, the thousand reasons to why I love you, are the same reasons your baby is going to fall in love with you the moment you lay your eyes on "the baby" and snuggle "the baby" in your arms!
